About Yellow Bin

Yellow Bin is one of Malaysia's pioneer textile recycling social enterprises. We place convenient collection bins across Johor Bahru so you can drop off old clothes, bags, and fabrics anytime — completely free, no appointment needed.

Yes, dropping off your textiles at a Yellow Bin is completely free. Simply bring your items to the nearest bin and drop them in — no registration or appointment needed.

We have 15+ bin locations across Johor Bahru. Use our Find a Bin page to locate the nearest drop-off point on an interactive map.

What We Accept

We accept everyday clothing and household textiles in good condition, including:

  • Adult and children's clothing (shirts, T-shirts, trousers, skirts, dresses)
  • Maxi and mini skirts
  • Bags, shoes, and accessories
  • Uniforms and workwear
  • Household fabrics: bedsheets, curtains, and towels

We do not accept the following textiles:

  • Items with holes, yellowing, pilling, or odors
  • Winter wear and heavy coats
  • Japanese kimonos and traditional costumes (Indian or Malay traditional attire)
  • Incomplete clothing sets
  • Headscarves (Tudung)
  • Fabric scraps, moldy clothing, wet towels
  • Used undergarments

Yellow Bin is not a trash can. The top 5 non-textile items commonly misplaced include:

  1. Food containers and takeaway boxes
  2. General household waste
  3. Animal carcasses
  4. Beverage cartons and drink packaging
  5. Used plastic bags

Additionally, we strictly reject fabric scraps, moldy clothing, wet towels, and used undergarments.

Items don't need to be freshly laundered, but extremely soiled or wet items can cause hygiene issues in the bin. A reasonable, dry condition is all we ask.

Yes — even worn-out shoes can be recycled into padding and insulation materials. We'll handle the sorting. Pairs are preferred, but single shoes are accepted too.

Donating & Drop-Off

Follow these three steps for a perfect drop-off:

  1. Dry & clean — ensure all clothes are clean and completely dry
  2. Bag it securely — place items in a plastic bag and tie it tightly to prevent moisture and rain damage
  3. Label it — write the contents on the outside of the bag (e.g. "children's clothes", "shoes")

For large donations (5+ bags), we recommend these locations for their easy parking and unloading access:

  • Amitabha Foundation Children's Home
  • Kempas HQ (our headquarters)
  • IOI Mall

Our drivers follow a scheduled routine:

  • Every 4 days: Villa Bestari and Shattuck St. Mary
  • Once a week: Menara TJB, Children's Home, Fairview International School, Shell stations at Taman Daya and Aeon, The Peak, IOI Mall, Pulai View, and Mewah View

Please don't leave items outside the bin — they can be damaged by rain or removed as litter. Use our Find a Bin map to locate another bin nearby, or come back the next day.

Door-to-door pick-up generally requires a minimum of 30 kg (approximately 6–7 bags). For smaller quantities, we encourage you to drop them off at the nearest Yellow Bin or directly at our HQ in Kempas.

Your Impact

Collected items are sorted into three grades:

  • Grade A — Good-condition items redistributed to those in need or sold as second-hand to fund our social enterprise operations
  • Grade B — Wearable items directed to community programs and charity partners
  • Scrap — Rejected and unusable textiles sold to workshops as industrial rags or to villagers, creating a circular economy

Every item you donate is kept out of landfill, directly reducing Malaysia's textile waste.

At our sorting center, a part-time worker processes up to 1 ton of clothing per day. The operation runs as a team effort: one person operates the baling press while the other handles the sorting. It's efficient, physical, and makes a real difference.

Partnerships & Organisations

Yellow Bin is primarily a recycling service, not a registered charity. For larger business donations or questions about tax receipts, please contact us directly and we can discuss partnership arrangements.

Absolutely. We partner with schools, condominiums, shopping centres, and workplaces to place bins in convenient community locations. Request a bin via WhatsApp or visit our Partner With Us page to get started.
